03 Jul Junior Rider Profile – Conor Reed
I am 16 years old and have been involved with horses all my life. My parents operate an equestrian centre with my dad Clive Reed a full-time jumping coach and trainer and we are sponsored Horseland Adelaide.
Last year I was fortunate to win the 2017 Leading SA Junior Jumping Rider after both my horses had amazing performances in the Foster’s Cup series finishing first and second respectively. My main horse, Clasique Dorien who is owned by my parents and Aunty was also awarded Junior Jumping Horse of the Year.
This year I have a strong team of five horses performing exceptionally well in Junior, Young Rider and Open classes. I am a member of the SA Junior/Young Rider State Squad and am always proud to represent my State. Through the Squad I have the opportunity to participate in clinics and high-performance activities to assist my development as an elite rider. I am dedicated to my training program and passionate about horses and the sport of Jumping. My ultimate goal is to one day represent Australia in Jumping at the Olympic Games.
I have had a successful start to the year winning six Junior Championships classes held so far and I am currently leading the SA Junior Horse / Rider of the Year and the SA Young Rider Horse / Rider of the Year. With Clasique Dorien I have stepped up to the bigger classes winning one of the National Young Rider selection events and winning a Platinum League class against some of SA’s best senior riders. I am very excited to have recently been named on the National Young Rider Elite Squad.
My greatest achievements so far include:
- Selected to represent Australia as a member of the Junior Nations Cup team to compete in Beijing, China
- Selected on the National Young Rider Elite Squad
- Winning the 2018 SA State Young Rider Jumping Championship title
- Winning Leading Boy Jumping Rider at Sydney Royal 2018
- Selected for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games selection camp.
- Winning the 2017 Gillian Rolton Youth Development Scholarship
- Winning the 2017 SA Leading Junior Jumping Rider of the Year
- Finishing 6th overall in the 2017 Australian Junior Jumping Championships.
My selection on the Australian Team to compete in the upcoming Junior Nations Cup event in Beijing is the highlight so far. The horses being made available are of the highest quality and I am privileged to be selected in a team of three to represent my country. This same venue will be used for the Longines Nations Cup in three weeks’ time.
I am very fortunate to be offered a sponsorship by the Morphettville Equine Clinic and sincerely thank them for their valued support. My family has been associated with the clinic for more than 20 years and the amazing Vets keep our team of horses fit and healthy and ready to compete at all times.
